I don’t drink at all. So, the nightlife during Freshers Week wasn’t something that I took part in. However, that week also coincided with my Welcome Week where I had a couple of induction lectures as well as Freshers Fayre. My induction lectures were a really nice way for me to meet a couple of the other people on my course and the other people in the College of Engineering since I’m going to be having lectures with quite a few of the other degree courses as well. It was also really nice to be able to know what I was going to be letting myself in for over the next couple of years.
Freshers Fayre was packed but that was to be expected. I really wanted to do Ballet since I’ve never tried it before and there was a beginners class. However, the class ended up clashing with my lectures so I’ve had to back out of that. I am hoping that next year I’ll be able to though. I realised that two of the three societies that I’ve decided to join are based around a lot of volunteer work which I’m really glad about. I’ve decided to join Discovery which is the student volunteering service in the university. They have over 20 different volunteering opportunities so it’ll be nice to join one or two and see how they go. The other one I’ve decided to join is Sustainable Engineering in Developing Countries which seems like an amazing opportunity. So, I’m hoping to tell you guys more about those as I do them.
First Week of Lectures
This has been the most tiring week for me, considering that I haven’t been on any kind of timetable since June. It’s been so weird having a structured day again but I’ve really appreciated it. I was a little nervous going into lectures. Since exams have finished, I haven’t needed much brain power. Maths has not been something that I’ve seen a lot of over Summer so I didn’t know how long it was going to take me to get back into the swing of things. Thankfully, it didn’t take me long at all. It all clicked back into place quicker than I thought it was going to.
I know that it’s only been the first week so I haven’t really been exposed to the full depth of my modules. However, I really am enjoying them so far. I’ve really missed being able to do some maths and physics so it’s been nice to be back to it. I’m slowly getting to know a couple of other people in my lectures that aren’t on my course as well. The past week has been a really good way for me to try and find my feet and settle in properly.
All in all, my first two weeks of university haven’t been all too bad. I’m ready to get stuck into my societies now and to get stuck into my lectures.
I’d love to know how you guys are finding going back to uni or how school and work have been so far. So, let me know in the comments!
